Preparing for a Dinner Party

Hosting a dinner party can be one of the most fun and rewarding social events that any homeowner can have. When you have a beautiful home or apartment that is wonderfully designed, there is nothing better than showing off all your hard work to the people you know best. As someone who hosts dinner parties quite frequently, here are some tips I can offer to make your next dinner party the best one yet.

Clean your home. This is the first step – your home needs to be absolutely spotless! Dust, vacuum, and wipe down all dirt and debris around your home. Nobody likes to go to a party in a messy house; it feels dirty and like the host does not even want you there. It’s absolutely critical that you have taken the proper time and care to give your place a nice cleaning. It will go a long way.

Pick some good music. It’s always a good idea to have some kind of music playing during a dinner party. Now, it doesn’t have to be loud, or obnoxious, or take over the feel of the entire get together – but some light, gentle background music is perfectly appropriate, and even preferred, in my opinion. Pick some Frank Sinatra or someone similar, and put on a nice playlist on your iPod or some other device, and just let it play in the background, loud enough so that people can make out the lyrics, but not so loud that it dominates the party. Believe me, it will class up your party.

Have amazing food. What’s a great dinner party without great food? Here you have one of two options – either cook something at home yourself, or get it catered. If you are going to do it yourself, know that it will take hours to prep and cook, and of course you’ll have to grocery shop, and then clean everything up. It’s a huge undertaking. My suggestion would be to have it catered, if it’s in your budget. You know the food will taste great, there will be zero prep, and clean-up will be a breeze.

So there you have it. Just follow the above steps that I’ve laid out, and your next dinner party should be a smashing success.
