Don’t Let Hard Water Build up Ruin Your Expensive Fixtures

You have spent a lot of time choosing the perfect fixtures for your kitchen and baths don’t let hard water build up ruin those fancy additions to your home. Most people have at least moderately hard water which includes excessive calcium and magnesium minerals. These minerals can cause limescale to buildup on your fixtures and in your water-using appliances. Limescale is a white, crusty material that adheres to your fixtures and can cause stains to appear in your toilet. If you live in the U.S. you have an 85% chance of having hard water issues but it’s easy to find out if you’re dealing with hard water and it is easy to combat it.

Most kitchen fixtures that are quality-built cost several hundred dollars and bathroom fixtures can be close to that amount as well. You certainly don’t want your expensive fixtures to be ruined by a white, crusty buildup. The easiest way to eliminate lime scale from your water is to install a water softening device. A water softener uses a process called ion exchange to remove the calcium and magnesium minerals from your water. A water softener consists of two tanks, in one tank you will put sodium chloride pellets, your hard water is flushed through these pellets and through the ion exchange process the softened water is then stored in the second tank.

Water softeners cost between $500 and $1,000 on average so they are not an inexpensive investment. However, you will get many benefits from having one. Your fixtures and appliances will no longer have lime scale build up; you will not run the risk of having your plumbing pipes clogged by the same material either. Your appliances will last longer particularly your dishwasher and washing machine. You will probably also notice that your hair feels better as does your skin since hard water minerals can have a drying effect on skin and hair. Finally, you will notice that you have to use much less soap since hard water minerals can inhibit detergents ability to lather.

As you can see there are many benefits to installing a water softener in your home, keeping your expensive fixtures beautiful is only one of them.
